Lonesome looking tree

17 July, 2014. Out riding this morning, I noticed this lonely and forlorn tree. It stands like a sentinel in a seemingly forgotten patch of scrub brush and field between clumps of cookie cutter houses. For some reason it struck me as an especially sad sight.

I took some reference photos while I was stopped to sketch and I’m not sure which I like more!

(Approximately 8 x 5 inches, Lamy pen and Noodler’s in a Moleskin w/c journal…and yes, I’m reevaluating the use of the chop. It’s too distracting, isn’t it?)
